This bird, a Great Blue Heron, was wading in a shallow water Cypress Grove. I took the photo with my new, Nikon D90 camera. I am working my way through the 278 page manual, but I have to say that I am very happy with the results thus far. More information in the expanded post.
I was happy with the Heron photo as it came out of the camera, and I was happier after some minor tweaking in Lightroom and Photoshop.
The photo was shot in RAW, f/4.5 at 1/25 of a second with a 70-300mm VR (vibration reduction) zoom lens. The focal lenght was 292 mm (35mm equivalent). The camera was hand held, but because of the VR lens I was able to get a sharp photo with a relatively slow shutter speed.
