Northport PhotoWalk Saturday…

This Saturday, July 18, is the WorldWide Photo Walk, and I am thrilled to be leading a walk in Northport Village. I thought I'd share a few Northport photos to set the mood.

The Northport PhotoWalk participants are meeting at the Gazebo at 9:30 A.M.

Someone Else's Peonies…

Last Sunday we were in Connecticuit for a family party at my sister-in-law's. Carol's peonies were in full bloom, and I couldn't resist taking a few photos.

With all the shade at our house, our peonies always bloom late, and as of last week they were just about ready to pop. And then came all the rain. Only a very few of my flowers made it to full bloom. So disappointing!

Worldwide Photo Walk

July 18 is the date of the Second Annual Worldwide Photowalk. The Photowalk is sponsored by Scott Kelby (for anyone who hasn't heard of him, he prolific author of books on Photoshop and photography, founder of the National Association of Photoshop Professionals and Kelby Training, and editor of Photoshop User magazine) and as of today there are 755 walks scheduled with over 10,000 people registered. When I checked the offical website last week, the only walk on Long Island was in Greenport, so I submitted an application to lead a walk in Northport. I was accepted, so the walk is on. All I need now is photo walkers!

For those of you who are wondering what the heck a photo walk is, the official defiinition is:
It’s a social photography event where photographers get together, usually in a downtown area or trendy section of town, to walk around, shoot photos, and generally have fun with other photographers.
Each PhotoWalk is limited to 50 participants, and there will be a website for uploading and sharing photos — with a prize given to the best photograph taken on each walk. There are also corporate sponsors and other prizes!

To find out about, and/or sign-up for the Northport walk, go to www.worldwidephotowalk.com/northport-ny-usa. If you want me to sign you up, send me an email and I'll add you to the list! The official PhotoWalk website, www.worldwidephotowalk.com has lots of information. Be sure to check it out.

That's all for now, Linda

Many feathered creatures…

It has been a while. I've been avoiding posting, because I haven't had the time to work on fixing the part of the blog that is broken—I hope to get to it soon, and back to making regular posts. Meanwhile, I do have a few photos I really wanted to share. Since the "Expand" link doesn't work, I had to put all of the photos in the main (and only) part of the post.

These shots were taken last Sunday at Heckscher Park in Huntington. Our Long Island resident geese seem to have big families this spring, and the babies in these photos certainly commanded an audience. If they had charged to have their photos taken they would have been very wealthy geese indeed!

The blog is broken…

I don't know what happened, but sometime between the post of the Green Heron on April 25, and when we arrived home in New York, the code that expands the posts stopped working. Now, when you click on the text Click for more…, nothing happens. I did not notice the problem until I attempted to publish photos of our new granddaughter on Mother's Day.

At the time I had hoped I would get the problem fixed in a few days, so I didn't send out a notice of the new post. I have been working on it, but I cannot find the problem, and no one else has been able to come up with a solution. I think I am going to have to redesign the blog from scratch. Meanwhile, all of the photos located in expanded portions of posts cannot be viewed. Until I get the problem solved, or redo my blog, I will keep posts short and the photos few.

Please take a minute to look at the two previous posts. One shows a recent photo of the Century Plant, and the other features our beautiful new granddaughter, Brianna Vanessa Quinn.

Century Plant update…

If you follow this blog, you will remember the photos of the Century Plant I posted in March and early April. The photo on the left was the last one I took on April 4, shortly before we left Florida to head home. The plant was still growing, but there was no sign of flowering. The May issue of the online resort newsletter featured an updated photo, showing that the plant is finally in bloom. I "borrowed" the photo, below, to show you all.

Our Granddaughter…

I have let another two weeks pass without a post. Since the last post we have arrived home on Long Island and have been working to unpack the RV and settle back into our house. On April 30 we received the exciting news that my stepson Brian and his wife Vanessa gave birth to our first grandchild, Brianna Vanessa. As most of you know, they are stationed in Tokyo with the Army, and until we can make the trip to visit, we have to make due with photos. She is a little one, weighing in at birth at 6lbs. 12oz., and 19 inches long. Obviously the photos are not mine, but I did want to show off our adorable granddaughter.

Expand the post for more photos of Brianna.

All dressed up for Mother's Day
